Lampholder and LED Lamp Manufacturer in Dongguan: What Star Lighting Makes and How
The short version
Star Lighting Co., Ltd. (also trading as XD Star) is a lampholder and LED lamp manufacturer in Hengli Town, Dongguan, operating since 2006. It makes three families of product: lampholders and plastic wiring accessories, LED desk, floor, clip and work lamps, and decorative lights such as pendants, sconces and night lights. Production runs in a 5,000+ sqm factory with 100+ production staff, an in-house mould shop holding over 200 active tool sets, and SMT and assembly lines. Most models start at 50-100 pieces per model, standard products ship 7-15 days after order confirmation, and products go to 50+ countries. A sales and support office in Ho Chi Minh City serves Vietnam and ASEAN; it has no production equipment.

What does Star Lighting manufacture?

The catalogue splits into three groups, and they are made quite differently. Lighting components are injection-moulded plastic and metal parts that other luminaire makers build into their own products. LED lamps are finished, branded or private-label products: desk lamps, floor lamps, clip lamps and work lamps. Decorative lighting covers products aimed at homes, hospitality and retail interiors.

The table below lists the twelve product lines as the factory presents them, with the number of models in each line and the specification points it publishes. Where a figure is not given, it is not listed here; ask for the datasheet of the specific model.

Lampholders and wiring accessories: the core line

The factory calls lampholders its core product, and the model counts back that up: the components group holds far more models than the finished lamps. A lampholder looks simple, but it carries mains voltage next to a heat source, so the plastic grade, the contact design and the thermal rating decide whether a luminaire passes its own safety tests.

Star Lighting's main-voltage holders are moulded in heat-resistant PC and ABS with a stated maximum operating temperature of 150°C, and the material has passed flame-retardant testing. The accessories range covers the parts that sit around the holder in a finished fitting: cable clamps for round and flat cables from 0.5mm² to 2.5mm², high-tensile anti-slip variants where pull-out resistance matters, PG waterproof cable glands, junction boxes and strain relief bushings.

LED module brackets are made to widely used international dimensions, so they fit most mainstream LED chip and PCB formats. For a proprietary module size, a custom bracket typically needs a 15-20 day tooling lead time.

Finished LED lamps and decorative lighting

On the finished-product side, the published features are the ones a retail or corporate buyer compares: colour temperature options, dimming, colour rendering, charging ports and battery capacity. Two lines state CRI above 95: the desk lamps and the night lights. The night lights also state a CCT range of 2800K to 5800K, while the desk, floor and clip lamps offer three colour temperatures.

The decorative range is aimed at hospitality, restaurant and home interiors. For interior design and construction projects, the factory supplies indoor and outdoor lighting packages, including pendants, desk lamps, RGBWIC floor lamps and decorative garden fixtures, from one contact.

How are the products made in the Dongguan factory?

All manufacturing takes place at the Dongguan factory, at No. 158, East Ring Road, Hengli Town. The factory lists six capabilities, and most products pass through several of them in sequence.

  • Mould design: moulds are designed and built in-house, and all mould development and maintenance stays inside the Dongguan facility.
  • Injection moulding: PC, ABS, PP, PA66 (nylon) and PBT, with UL94-V0 flame-retardant grades kept in stock for lighting parts. Each moulding machine has automated robotic handling to reduce variation between operators.
  • Secondary processes: ultrasonic welding, silk-screen printing, pad printing and semi-automated assembly, so parts can leave as sub-assemblies rather than loose pieces.
  • PCB assembly: SMT lines for LED modules and circuit boards.
  • Full assembly: finished lamps are assembled on lines with inline quality control.
  • Packaging and logistics: custom packaging is designed and produced, and shipping is coordinated from the factory.

In general LED lamp manufacturing, these steps run in a fixed order: mould the housing and small parts, place LEDs and driver components on the board, solder and inspect the board, assemble housing, board and wiring, then test and burn in before packing. Owning the mould shop changes the speed of that chain. New tooling for a custom part typically takes 15-25 days, and the factory can make first samples from 3D-printed prototypes or first-run moulded parts.

What tolerances and materials can a buyer expect?

Star Lighting does not publish a general tolerance figure, and a tolerance quoted without a drawing means little. Dimensional tolerance in injection moulding depends on the material, the wall thickness, the part size and the mould itself. What the factory does state is how dimensional accuracy is controlled: moulds are built and maintained in-house, robotic part handling removes operator variation, and every run goes through first-article inspection and in-process patrol inspection.

What to send instead of asking for a tolerance figure
Send a 2D drawing with your critical dimensions and tolerances marked, plus the material grade and flame rating you need. Ask for a first-article inspection report against that drawing with the samples, and for the MSDS and flame-retardant test report for the material. The factory states it supplies both documents on request.

On materials, the factory can also mix a controlled share of recycled plastic into non-critical parts, with material traceability documents for the buyer's environmental reporting. The factory limits this to non-critical components, depending on the structural requirements of the part.

How is quality tested before shipment?

The quality process has five stages, from raw material to the sealed carton. The aim is to catch problems where they are cheapest to fix: a bad batch of resin before it is moulded, a drifting mould before it fills a container.

  1. Incoming inspection: all raw materials are inspected before they enter production.
  2. In-process QC: checks at every critical manufacturing stage, including first-article and patrol inspection on moulding.
  3. Finished product testing: 100% of finished products receive electrical safety and performance testing.
  4. Aging test: extended runtime testing for reliability. Waterproof testing is also part of the factory's test capability.
  5. Pre-shipment inspection: a final check, with 100% outgoing inspection, before packing and dispatch.

Aging, also called burn-in, is standard practice for LED products: units run powered for an extended period so that early failures in LEDs, solder joints or drivers show up in the factory rather than at the customer. Ask how long the aging test runs for your product and at what voltage, and whether you can receive the test records with the shipment.

Packing uses reinforced industrial cartons and pallet wrapping as standard. If goods arrive damaged, the buyer documents it with photos on receipt, and after confirmation the factory arranges replacement stock.

Which certifications cover which export market?

Certificates belong to specific products and standards, not to a factory as a whole. The table below matches the certificates Star Lighting publishes to the markets they serve. Use it as a starting list, then ask for the document that covers your exact model.

MarketCertificate or testWhat it covers
European UnionCE (EMC Directive 2014/30/EU)Tested against EN 55015, EN 61547 and the EN 61000 series

All marketsamfori BSCI social auditFull monitoring by SGS, audit ID 26-0385758, valid through March 2027

Certificates as listed by Star Lighting. ETL and Energy Star are also named by the factory where applicable to a specific product.

Check the scope, not just the logo
A UL certificate for portable luminaires does not cover a lampholder sold as a component, and an EMC declaration for one floor lamp series does not cover a different lamp. As general practice, CE marking on a mains-powered luminaire also involves the Low Voltage Directive, so ask for the LVD test report alongside the EMC report. ENEC marks are issued per product, so ask for the certificate naming the part number you are buying.

The factory describes its quality system as ISO 9001-certified and says it works with European quality partners to design ENEC and EU directive requirements into components from the start. For a European luminaire maker, sourcing an already certified lampholder simplifies the luminaire's own approval, because the component's test results can be referenced instead of repeated.

What can be customised under OEM and ODM?

  • Branding: logo printing or engraving on parts and products.
  • Materials: special material formulations, including flame-retardant grades and controlled recycled content.
  • Tooling: bespoke moulds for brackets, shade ring retainers or any other plastic fitting your luminaire needs.
  • Electronics: LED drivers, PCB modules and lamp holders to your specification.
  • Packaging: neutral white boxes or fully custom colour cartons, with artwork designed to your brand.

The engineering team works from customer drawings or a product brief. Because the moulds, the moulding and the assembly sit in one building, a change to a housing does not need to pass between separate suppliers.

A practical order sequence
1. Send drawings or a reference product with target market and quantity. 2. Confirm the certificates needed for that market. 3. Order samples and check them against your drawing. 4. Approve tooling if parts are custom. 5. Place the order and agree the inspection and testing records you want with the shipment.

Where are Star Lighting's offices?

The Dongguan factory is the headquarters and the only production site. It holds the supply chain management, R&D, quality control and export documentation functions, and it makes the full product range.

The Vietnam office in Ho Chi Minh City is a sales and support office for Vietnam and the ASEAN region. It does not have production equipment. It provides sales consultation in Vietnamese, coordinates sample dispatch between Dongguan and Ho Chi Minh City, offers on-site technical guidance to local lighting manufacturers, and handles logistics coordination. It keeps local stock of frequently ordered items such as lamp holders and cable clamps, and can arrange next-day or two-day courier delivery within Vietnam, including to Hanoi.

Customers in Vietnam can settle in Vietnamese Dong through the local business entity, which simplifies import declarations. Physical samples of the interior range, from pendants to desk and floor lamps, are available at the office for designers to select in person.
